Your elevator installation, maintenance, and repair contractor should know ADA policy in detail, but here are the basics for elevator ADA compliance in DE:

• Hall and call buttons must be mounted at 42 inches.
• Buttons must have certain illumination levels.
• Braille plates must be next to buttons and at entrance jambs.
• Button diameter must be a minimum of .75 inches.
• Two-way communication systems must be accessible to deaf/blind users.
• Chimes or announcements must indicate passing floors.
• Cabs must accommodate a wheelchair making a 360-degree turn.
• Hall lantern fixtures must be mounted with centerlines at least 72 inches from the floor.
• Doors must reopen without physical contact.
• Emergency controls must be at the bottom of the control panel with centerlines no less than 35 inches from the floor.
• Handrails at 30 inches.
