Riding an elevator is an extremely safe way to get to where you need to go in just a few seconds.

But what do you do when someone gets stuck in an elevator?

Well, the first thing to do is not panic.

As a passenger or the building owner, you should both remain calm in a situation where a visitor is stuck.

If you are wondering how to walk the person through the safest way of being released, first off you should tell them the most important thing is to stay in the elevator. Do not try to open the doors or attempt to exit through the top of the elevator. Injuries often occur when passengers attempt to exit the stuck elevator. The elevator is the safest place you can be until help arrives.

In the event that you get stuck in an elevator and no one is around or has not noticed yet, press the emergency call button. Doing so will let the building know that you are trapped. Be sure to tell them which elevator number and which floor the elevator is stuck on if you can tell. The building will alert the proper representatives to come release you and any other passengers.

A great way to ensure that this scenario rarely happens is to schedule routine elevator maintenance

When your elevators are frequently maintained, it ensures that everything is clean and working properly.

You can also lightly clean your elevator tracks or doorways to make sure there is no debris or trash lodged in those spaces.

When elevator is not performing or functioning normally, please contact your elevator service provider as soon as possible. They can inspect your elevator to see if a part needs to be replaced or fixed. Contacting the professionals ensures that your elevators are kept in tip-top shape and as safe as can be.
